Question by Kimberly A: Wheelchair rental in Eindhoven?
Anyone in the Eindhoven area or familiar with Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam know where I can rent a wheelchair? My grandma is coming to visit, flying into Amsterdam and taking the train with me to Eindhoven. She’s alright walking for a bit, but I want to have a wheelchair just in case, though I’m not too keen on buying one (they’re all listed as over 100 euro). Ideas welcome! Thanks!

Question by ujalakali: Which rental car company will rent us a vehicle with a lift for a motorized wheelchair?
My friend who uses a scooter for his handicap is coming to LA to go to a wedding. His wife can drive the vehicle, and he can sit in the passenger seat, but they need to be able to lift that scooter into the vehicle. Which company offers such a vehicle? What kind of car is it? Are they only available at certain airports?

I have never heard of a company that has anything like that. The closest I can think of would be a pickup with a lift gate. Your friend may want to consider either renting a minivan, pulling the rear seat and buying a ramp to load and unload. Or pick up a wheelchair for the weekend.

***UPDATE** the chair has moved to a public viewing location. See it in person at the Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation in Boston, MA. until May 2011! Finally got around to adding together some video clips I took. I had a lot of people asking about what it does and how, so here is a little walk through. (read more below) I will answer any logical questions in the comments if your curious about something I didn’t mention. A side note, no I do not NEED the wheelchair for any physical disability this is a costume/prop just like the one Patrick Stewart tooled around in, I get asked that a lot by many people and I hope that fact doesn’t offend anyone. I’m fascinated by motorized wheelchairs, always have been. I love the idea of a Dr. Evil type character with the bald head and hairless cat sipping a martini zooming around a top secret lab in style. Whenever I’ve shown this I’ve perked the interest of many people who DO need a wheelchair and I hope it has inspired them to seek out modifications of their own to individualize themselves. No I’m not the first or only “steampunk” chair out there, this is just MY take on it based on an original concept art (in the opening and closing credits FYI)

Police dump quadriplegic from wheelchair

Tampa, Florida – The Hillsborough Co. Sheriff’s Office held a press conference at 10:30am regarding the deputy who can be seen on video dumping a man in a wheelchair onto the ground. They’ve announced that Deputy Charlette Jones has been relieved of her duties without pay pending the outcome of an investigation. She has not officially been terminated. www.tampabays10.com
